Communication:

Client communication is the most important aspect of running a photography business.

I have learned a lot about how to best communicate with potential clients whether that be when I market my business through social media by engaging with my followers or when a potential client wants to book a shoot with me. I am continuing to learn how to layout my portfolio website in a way that grabs attention and is clear and concise to potential clients; that way further communication is smoother later on in the process.

Critical problem solving:

At the beginning stages of transferring to Texas A&M, I knew there was going to be many financial obstacles that I would have to face, analyze, and figure out a strategy on how I needed to budget the money that I had saved up to last me the whole semester before I went back home. Paying rent in and of itself was a new costly expense that I had never budgeted around. On top of that, my car decided to break down 3 times over the semester, so that was a lot of unforeseen monetary challenges that I had to overcome. I had to figure out how to come up with extra cash, doing more paid photoshoots.

Collaboration:

One of my best friends growing up is in the midst of starting her designer and product development business. She is currently studying apparel design at Baylor University. I had the pleasure of photographing some of the pieces she has made over the years to show off her work on her portfolio website. This had been one of my favorite shoots that I have done so far and collaborating on shoots is such a fun way to experiment with composition and editing.

Culture:

The transition of moving to College Station and going to school at Texas A&M University has been a culture shock, to say the least. The culture of Texas A&M or any college town is very different from the town I grew up in. All of the traditions and school pride is something I have never been apart of till now. Culture can also be described as a group of friends, and it was important for me to find the culture that I wanted to be apart of here at Texas A&M. Joining a Christian women's organization, Aggie Sisters for Christ (ASC), was a great way for me to immerse myself in A&M culture.

Competencies:

Some of the communication skills that I have learned so far during my time here are how to communicate through graphic design and the composition of photography. The church that I have started getting involved with at the start of this semester has given me different opportunities to practice all the skills. I was given the opportunity of designing an Instagram post and I also take pictures at some of the ASC events.
